ConSYDeration welcomes people of all races, religions, abilities, genders and sexualities. We show respect to all and expect the same behaviour from you. You will encounter people with diverse experiences, ideologies and interests and we hope you will be open to meeting each other with collegiate curiosity and kindness.
The site
The con takes place on the grounds of Old Government House, specifically the marquee for plenary sessions, the Welcome Room for workshops and the Laundry for quietitude. Please be aware it is a heritage-listed site and therefore all aspects of the site need to be treated with care.
The grounds are open to the public, so we ask you to wear your con ID when entering any of the con spaces. Old Government House itself is a ticketed venue. (Should you wish to add to your visit you can buy tickets from the office by the front gate.)
You are welcome to bring your own food and drink so long as you dispose of any rubbish in the bins provided. We recommend having a picnic on the lawn.
As this is a heritage-listed site, there is a security guard on the grounds for the duration of the con. Please note the guard is primarily there to protect the property, not attendees.
If there is an emergency, please follow instructions from venue staff (wearing badges) or con committee (wearing lanyards).
Attendee behaviour
It’s in the name: ConSYDeration. This con is meant to be an inclusive place for all where people are treated with consideration.
We will not tolerate harassment nor discrimination of any kind and reserve the right to remove anyone from the con space if they act or behave in a way that is disrespectful, dangerous, or otherwise disruptive towards other attendees or the public.
Respect difference in discussion. You may have differing opinions, but we respect diverse voices and want them to be shared.
Photos can be taken of the panellists (they have given consent) and photography of the wider audience is generally acceptable. If you wish to take photos of specific people, please ask for their consent.
Safety and Security
Sydney Speculative Scribes, WestWords and our volunteers are here to make sure that everyone has a physically and psychologically safe experience. If you notice or experience anything that makes you feel unsafe, let us know – we are wearing lanyards with STAFF or VOLUNTEER on them.
We also have first aid onsite.
Illness and preventative care
We will follow all public health guidelines as stated by local authorities.
Although wearing masks is not enforced by the con, you are welcome to don your own. There is also plenty of green space and fresh air around should you wish to leave the enclosed areas.
If you feel ill, we discourage you from attending the con as there may be attendees who are immunocompromised or have disabilities; we ask you to be considerate of their wellbeing.
